We just moved to Midway when our first morning became a tragedy. Our "baby" Pepper was hit on FM2158 just after we left for work. Our son was the one who found Pepper and rushed her to Dr. Totten. There was little hope for a recovery but we were not ready to give up. I checked on her by phone throughout the day but could not leave work to see for myself how she was progressing. Everyone was so nice and understanding about my anxiety. The last call I made for the day was 15 minutes or so after the office closed. The phones were patched through to another location. The operator asked me to hold and then came back to me to tell me that Dr. Totten had taken Pepper home with him to watch her through the night. She gave me his cell phone number and encouraged me to call him personally. Dr. Totten was the nicest and most sensitive vet I had ever spoken with. All vets love animals...it's their career motivation. But, how many would care enough to.....well, you know what I mean. It brought us such peace to know that Pepper was not alone.
